HR Strategy: 2019 to 2021 and Beyond

The University of Kwazulu Natal has approved its Institutional Human Resources Strategic Plan for 2019 to 2021. This Strategy is aligned with the strategic objectives of the University. As the Human Resources Division, our overall responsibility is to enable the University to translate its programmes into measurable outcomes that would lead to value-creation and sustainability across the University.

As such, HR will enable the University to create capabilities and capacity to turn the strategic objectives into high impact results as well as become an employer of choice for employees. The HR Strategy will be achieved through placing special emphasis on:

  1. High level of institutional performance to strengthen Academic, Professional Services and leadership capacity & capability
  2. Institutional Culture and Climate to promote a workplace culture and climate that is conducive to performance excellence and social cohesion. Enhance HR Divisional efficiency and service delivery. To advance the University’s transformation agenda
  3. Financial Sustainability to achieve financial efficiency and increase institutional operational effectiveness to advance university.

HR will strive to enable the University to deliver on the mandate as stipulation the 2017-2021 University Strategic Plan, its Annual Performance Plan (APP) and in the Higher Education Act. HR will be a strategic partner to the University’s management in providing best practice HR intervention, comprehensive professional support and efficient service across the University. These include the management of all aspects of employee engagement in terms of Talent Acquisition, Performance, Development & Career Management, Total Reward Services, Employee Relations, Employee Wellbeing and Transformation. The role of HR is to further advise the University on the best practices as it relates to organisational design and development in order to improve institutional effectiveness.

The Human Resources Division is guided by REACHT values and principles which seek to respond to our clients’ needs through effective and ethical governance processes that are embedding the desired university goals.
